Oral Health Status and Oral Health-related Quality of Life among Construction Workers in Chennai City: A Cross-sectional Study.

- Abstract
Aim: The primary aim of this research endeavor is to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the oral health status and its consequent influence on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) among the construction worker demographic situated in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the oral health status of 217 subjects, comprising 113 males and 104 females, among construction workers in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Results: Among the construction workers, the prevalence of dental caries stood at 39.7%, while missing teeth and filled teeth accounted for 30.2 and 30.0%, respectively. A majority of the construction workers exhibited a fair oral hygiene index-simplified (OHIS) score (67.4%), indicating moderate oral hygiene, with 19.7% scoring poorly in OHIS. Only 12.4% of construction workers achieved a good OHIS score, signifying good oral hygiene. Conclusion: The findings emphasize the urgent necessity for implementing health education programs tailored to the needs of construction workers. Clinical significance: The present study highlights the fact that early detection and treatment of oral disorders may significantly benefit those in need.
