- Abstract
Domestic violence is currently a serious, internationally recognized social problem. Insidious in the way it manifests itself, domestic violence mainly affects people from vulnerable groups, degrading their physical and mental health, economic well-being, social relations and their right to manifest themselves religiously. This article provides an overview of the intervention mechanisms for the protection of victims of domestic violence and on how to restore order in 19 European countries. The analysis refers to the forms and content of the provisional protection order, the institutions empowered to apply it, as well as the sanctions provided in the case of non-compliance to the obligations imposed by this order. The general principle applied is: once abuses are discovered, the intervention must be prompt and effective, so that the victim gains trust in public institutions and work unreservedly to restore the balance of forces, values and regain all his or hers rights in society. The conclusions of the analysis in this article can be a starting point both for improving working procedures in cases of domestic violence and to promote changes in the law necessary to correct certain aspects of the provisional protection order applied in Romania.
