- Abstract
Kumyks, who live in Caucasia, are one of the Turkish nations. The Usul-i Cedit act, which affected the whole Central Asia in the beginning of 20th century, also gained followers among Kumyks. As well as being an educator, Abusufiyan Akayev brought many works of art as a successful man of letters and collector. "Lügat el-meşhur" is one of these works of art. The dictionary, that was prepared as Ottoman Turkish to Kumyks language, was written in order to enlighten the works of art among the district where Turkish language was spoken. This short text's aim is to introduce the dictionary. Besides the general information and evaluations of the dictionary, we will tell the rules of dictionary writing, that were stated by Abuspiyan in the foreword of the dictionary.
