- Abstract
Water well site location in fractured aquifers is a challenging activity, since in these environments the water producing areas are located at preferential points, making it difficult to obtain productive wells. This paper presents a case study on the location and drilling of five artesian wells executed by the Brazilian Army in the context of works to aim the communities affected by drought in the Brazilian semi-arid region. The geoelectric technique of multi-electrode electric imaging was the variable geometry, with the objective of identifying structural lineaments in the rocks in subsurface, regions with potential groundwater storage. The geophysical investigations occurred in fractured aquifers of the Complex Caicó, with occurrence of granite and diorite orthogneisses, and of the Seridó Group, with occurrence of supracrustal rocks of neoproterozoic age, constituted by a sequence of metavulcanic and metassedimentary supracrustal. The association of the geophysical data with the local geological characteristics was fundamental in the process of interpretation of the resistivity modeled sections, contributing to obtain a higher success rate in the drilling of productive wells.
