- Abstract
The article reviews on the hypnotic sedative drugs which are used in the treatment of insomnia, a chronic sleeplessness condition. Benzodiazepines were used to treat the disease because they were proven to improve the sleeping time of the patient, however, several complications existed among patients taking the drugs and medical practitioners fears of the risk of physical and psychological dependency on the medicine. Likewise, non-benzodiazepine drugs were also developed with lesser side effect.
