- Abstract
The article focuses on the characteristics of a healthy school, and the things and the principles to be considered when building one. It discusses several issues related with the construction of a healthy school, such as the inclusion of energy and water conservation features in the development, the relationship between green and healthy schools, and the importance of air quality, lightning and ventilation as elements of a healthy school. It cites policies and initiatives taken to promote healthy school, such as the rating system of the organization Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS). It analyzes the effectiveness of the rating systems and guidelines associated with the construction of healthy schools, and the budget allotted by the U.S. government for these schools.
