- Abstract
The article presents an in-depth examination into the history of French popular prints since the 18th century. Focus is given to the history of "Images d'Epinal," a style of prints originally coming from the city of Epinal, France but later used to describe the style of French popular art regardless of region. An overview of the prints is given from playing cards and religious images in the mid-18th century, to 19th-century illustrations of stories such as little red riding hood, to a resurgence of interest in the collections by early 20th-century art collectors.
