- Abstract
The article presents an examination into the historiography of the Cold War and the U.S. anti-communist movement. Details are given highlighting several historical works which profile the major elements of the political discourse and the literary propaganda which emerged during the period. Subjects addressed include the rise of Senator Joseph McCarthy and his anti-communist conservatism, the central ideological theme of patriotic allegiance, and the unique characteristics of anti-communism in the public and private spheres.
