The article examines the evolving role of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and its member states in implementing the 1982 Law of the Sea Convention. It discusses the role of IMO as a forum where states may satisfy their duty to cooperate in implementing the 1982 Law of the Sea Convention. It also explores the relationship between the IMO and the United Nations and the role of flag state in maritime safety, security and pollution prevention.
