A literary criticism of the book "The Woman in White" by Wilkie Collins is presented. It explores characters including Walter Hartright, Laura Fairli, Professor Pesca and Frederick Fairlie. It discusses English liberalism and violence faced by women in context and in series of events of the Risorgimento, a movement for Italian unification. It discusses depiction of cosmopolitanism in the novel and views of critics including Lauren M.E. Goodlad.
