Ekphrasis in Valle-Inclán's Comedias bárbaras.
- Authors
Drumm, Elizabeth
- Abstract
The article discusses the ekphrasis, the dramatic description of visual art, in Ramón del Valle-Inclán's "Comedias bárbaras. " The focus of the article concerns how verbal description displaces the otherness of imagery. The tension between the verbal and visual media is a common characteristic in early 20th-century Spanish theater. The article accentuates that while Valle-Inclán considered language to be important, it is secondary to the visual components of theater.
