- Abstract
The article offers information on the advertising undertaken by entrepreneur and philanthropist George Eastman for his photography museum and archive, George Eastman House and company Eastman Kodak Co. The article states that it was due to Eastman's advertising that snapshot photography became a part of American life. In 1888, he coined the name "Kodak," foreseeing that it can play a distinct brand name for the success of the company. George Eastman is said to have played a prominent role in shaping the company's publicity and marketing since 1888, when Kodak's first camera and roll film were invented. From the 1890s to 1970s, the Kodak Girl was a fixture in its advertisements. The company's 1889 advertisements emphasized the small size and light weight of its cameras.
