- Abstract
Although peer mentoring programmes have been shown to result in various positive outcomes for those that engage in them, it has been suggested that these benefits may not be universal for all. Some research has found that matching mentors based on demographic factors can be beneficial for protégés, although this data is not consistent. We investigate here whether mentor and protégé demographics influence the likelihood of engagement with a student peer learning programme. Actual interaction data collected from the Academic Mentoring Programme at Kingston University combined with student demographic information was used. We also investigated whether perceived differences between mentors and protégés influence perception of positive outcomes of the mentoring relationship.
