- Abstract
The article highlights a conference conducted by the Royal Society of Medicine and the Royal Society of Arts in Great Britain in February 1987, which focused on the improvement of quality of life for people with severe, profound and multiple handicaps. The importance of grouping patients to ensure that their special needs are met, and the need to distinguish severity of mental impairment, disability and handicap from severe mental retardation are discussed.
