Abstract
The article describes the architectural design and plans for the construction of a storm surge barrier in Eastern Scheldt, Netherlands by the Dutch Delta Works. The planned constructed was considered to be the most recent Wonder of the World in 1994 with 65 concrete piles each 40 meterslong and weighing 18,000 tons. Key considerations in the construction of the barriers and its functions are examined.
