- Abstract
The International Ocean Drilling Programme (IODP) is a long-standing international collaboration that supports scientific knowledge of Earth's interior through ocean drilling. As the current phase, the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP), comes to an end in 2024, a new program called IODP3 will be established by the European Consortium for Ocean Research Drilling (ECORD) and Japan. IODP3 will continue to address important questions in Earth, ocean, environmental, and life sciences through research expeditions and projects based on subseafloor data and samples. The program will operate with transparency, international collaboration, and a focus on scientific excellence. It will prioritize diversity and provide open access to samples and data. The program aims to continue scientific ocean drilling beyond 2024.
