- Authors
Allen, Rose Mary
- Abstract
The article discusses the formation of a national identity on the island nation of Curaçao in the midst of its process of constitutional reform. The author discusses both regional and local notions of national identity in the country. A history of the island's constitutional changes from 1954 to 2010 is provided. The author then places this construction of identity within a larger Caribbean framework. The effects of Dutch colonialism on this identity are described, along with Curaçao's strong position within the Netherlands Antilles federation and the effects of globalization on the country.
