- Abstract
Throughout history, many educators mentioned the importance of using and developing the senses. Rousseau pointed out that although the children are weaker than adults in terms of strength and reasoning, they are as successful as adults in using the sensation. Montessori developed sensuous materials for children in early childhood. Steiner claimed that the sense organs were not five. According to Steiner, human development divided into three as physical, intellectual, and spiritual hence there are four senses in each developmental stage. Architecture can be considered as a multi-dimensional discipline responsible for all senses. As the human body moves, it sees, hears, touches, smells, and tastes. Thus, architecture comes to life. An architectural structure is experienced as a result of the arrangement of the space that addresses all sensory perceptions. A place that addresses all senses plays an active role in the perception and meaning of the environment. Schools for children where spend most of their daily life; it is a substantial institution in using, developing, and experiencing the senses. This study aims to reveal the characteristics of the spatial components and elements that affect the perception of space that stimulate the senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell-taste in learning spaces.
