- Abstract
For preparation of a green biological hybrid flame retardant, chitosan-based core-shell flame retardant (CS@PA@MEL) was prepared by electrostatic interaction using green natural polymer chitosan (CS) as the 'core' and phytic acid (PA) and melamine (MEL) as the 'shell', to solve the flammability and low flame-retardant efficiency of biodegradable polymers. The structure of CS@PA@MEL was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The thermal stability, micro morphology and element composition of the hybrid structure were studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TG), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and element energy spectrum analysis. The results indicate that CS@PA@MEL exhibits characteristic absorption peaks of C-N, -C=N- and P-O, P=O. The introduction of PA and MEL significantly reduces the thermal decomposition rate of CS and increases the residual char rate. CS@PA@MEL exhibits a clear wrapped fold structure morphology, while the content of P and N elements has significantly increased. The above results confirm that PA and MEL have successfully achieved coating modification of CS.
