- Abstract
Forest grows in plain relief in Giurgiu County and predominantly in mountain and hill relief in Maramures County. The aim of this paper is to provide a description of soils from these two areas. The work material consists of soil analysis reports from that two forest directorates. Furthermore, soil analysis reports are part of an extensive database at national level performed by INCDS "Marin Dracea" based on forest management plans made after 1980. 119 soil profiles were analyzed in total for Giurgiu, with a total of 337 soil genetic horizons. For Maramures area, 868 soil profiles were analyzed, with a total of 2159 soil genetic horizons. The soils from Giurgiu Forest Directorate are specific to the plain area: the most common types of soils are preluvosol, phaeoziom, and luvosol; these are soils moderately supplied with humus, weakly acid to alkaline and eubasic. The soils from Maramures Forest Directorate are characteristic to hill and mountain areas: the most common types of soils being dystric cambosol, eutriccambosol and entic podzol; these are soils rich in humus, generally acid, from oligobasic to mezobasic.
