The Californian Missions.
Abstract
The article introduces Spanish religious foundations in California. Spain had claimed the land when it was first spotted by Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1542. Missions had already been established for Spain in Baja California and Mexico by the Jesuits. San Juan de Capistrano is famous for its exquisite gardens and the picturesque ruins of The Great Stone Church. In 1885, Charles Fletcher Lummis founded the Landmarks Club of California.
