An editorial is presented, in which the author discusses contested spaces in which the relationship between institutions and their history develop. It discusses application of ‘avant-garde' in architectural currents for characterizing and shaping the discipline's common sense, extending into wider use. It also mentions discursive practice faces conflicts while evaluating historicity, inasmuch as the definitions that have become hegemonic are opened up by the particularities.
