- Abstract
Flow studies represent a mechanism for assessing access to justice through monitoring the procedural process of a particular crime during its passage through the bodies that make up the Criminal Justice System (SJC), observing how these bodies fulfill their roles, be it in the investigation, the denunciation or in the processing of crimes, being an essential tool for visualizing the existing bottlenecks during the path followed by a complaint (notification of crime), from the determination of intervals that can be considered since the initiation of the procedure by the police authority until the sentence is served, in addition to providing an analysis of the efficiency of the system itself, also representing a powerful public policy assessment tool. To understand this path taken by a criminal species, during their passage through the instances of the Criminal Justice System (Police Station, Public Ministry, Judiciary, Penitentiary System), social science scholars developed methods of approaches to in order to establish methodological guidelines to be used during data collection by the researcher. It is in this point that the central objective of this work is concentrated, which consists of pondering about these methodological premises used in flow studies of the criminal justice system, aiming to offer parameters that serve to subsidize research in the area.
