- Title
Person-Centered Care for People with Dementia : A Theoretical and Conceptual Framework.
- Authors
Love, Karen; Pinkowitz, Jackie
- Abstract
During 2012, the state of dementia care in the United States, the call to reduce antipsychotic drugs, and the relative exclusion of person-centered dementia care practices in our first National Alzheimer's Plan catalyzed a grassroots collaboration, called the Dementia Initiative, between experts-a diverse array of representatives from the research, policy, and practice sectors. These experts understood that making person-centered dementia care values and practices the norm would require a common definition and conceptual framework for effective implementation. This article highlights the consensus-based strategy used to develop the framework and the structure, operational processes, and practices it contains.
