The article argues that the apparent triviality of the recording of the meeting between Jacob and the Pharaoh in Genesis 47:7-10 actually shows that it has importance. It is observed from the choice of words in the encounter, that while Jacob thought that their stay in Egypt would be temporary, the Pharaoh believed that their stay would be permanent. Thus, Jacob and the Pharaoh had contrasting motives during the meeting.
