- Abstract
Secondary school stage is so important in the student's life because the student has to make a decision regarding his future after 12 years of schooling. There are several recurring complaints about the students' low performance in certain subjects including mathematics, physics, English, and some aspects of Arabic. This low performance weakens the students' opportunities in getting scholarships and obtaining admission to universities inside and outside the country. As a result, Hudhramout Establishment for Human resources launched a promotion program for the third year students in the first semester of 2006/2007 in Mukalla and Syoun. The aim of this study is to assess the success of this program from the point of view of students, teachers, head teachers and inspectors. Two questionnaires, one for the students (16 items) and the other for the educators (14 items), were administered. The sample consisted of 340 students and 44 educators. The value for reliability was 94 for the students' questionnaire and 96 for the teachers' using the spss scale. The results showed that both literary and science stream students viewed the program positively and considered it a success (the respective percentages are 70.96% and 90.24%). Similarly, the program was assessed positively by the three groups of educators. The study concludes by recommending the continuation of this program in the second semester in Mukalla and Syoun and the generalization of such programs to cover other districts in Hudhramoout.
