- Abstract
"Corpus Pragmatic Studies on the History of Medical Discourse" is a collection of thirteen articles edited by Turo Hiltunen and Irma Taavitsainen. The book utilizes corpus linguistics methodology to explore changing communicative patterns, roles, language use, and functions in the language of medicine. Divided into two parts, the book examines discursive changes and changing functions, roles, and representations in medical discourse. The chapters cover various aspects of medical discourse in different time periods and languages, providing insights into the development of medical terminology, the construction of epistemologies, and the representation of patients and practitioners. The book is praised for its use of corpora to analyze changes in language patterns and functions in medical discourse throughout history.
