The article discusses how to preserve academic freedom amidst the abusive requests of research records of university professors under open records laws in the U.S. Topics include the importance of academic freedom to academia, the effects of open records laws on the country's public colleges, and the need to adopt a clear academic freedom exemption for the laws to allow professors to conduct research, teach, and debate without outside interference and censorship.
