- Abstract
The article focuses on a research conducted in order to examine the theoretical and empirical relationships between perceived control and preventive health behavior (PHB). The study showed that the socio-psychological attributes which had the highest predictive value for PHB included internal locus of control and perceptions that the benefits of PHB are high or that the costs (including psychological costs) are low, or both. A sense of control is said to be related to actions related to the improvement of health and even to health status itself. The research revealed that perceptions of control vary in response in various conditions and according to the degree of potential control available.
