- Abstract
Seven compounds have been isolated and characterized from Syzygium aromaticum namely oleanolic acid lactone (1), β-sitosterol (2), nigricin (3), flavaellagic acid (4), 2α- hydroxyoleanolic acid (5), 3β-hydroxy-11-oxo-olean-12-en-28-oic acid (6) and β-sitosterol 3-O-β- D-glucopyranoside (7). Compounds 1, 3, 4 and 6 are reported for the first time from the genus Syzygium whereas compounds 2, 5 and 7 are known constituents from this source.
