- Abstract
The development of internet has brought about significant transformations in every field of mass communication. As a consequence, firstly the fields of printed media and radio broadcasting transformed into internet journalism and internet radio broadcasting. These new developments have also changed the culture of the readers and the listeners, and created a new type of audience. A similar process occurred in cinema as well; with digital cinema, which is the new projection of the global world's current situation in the field of technology in cinema, important transformations emerged in the production, distribution and exhibition of films; and consequently, such transformations inevitably affected cinema audience. It is obvious that the outcomes of the new media studies that concentrate on digital cinema have been highly valuable for the field. However, it is believed that the human factor should not be ignored in such studies since people are the target audience of such technological development. Especially, as the students of the departments of cinema are being trained to be future professionals in the field, their opinions concerning the digitalisation of cinema are considered important in such analyses. For this reason, this study analyses how the students of the Faculty of Fine Arts perceive the digitalisation of cinema, and tries to put forth the students' perceptions concerning whether or not they are ready for the sector to work in this field. In this study, the students of the Cinema-TV Department of Fine Arts Faculty of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University are selected as a sample, and the data have been obtained using interviewing technique, and have been analysed through descriptive analysis.
