- Abstract
It is needless to say that Jean-Jacques Rousseau occupies a very unique position in the history of political thought. His enigmatic ideas ranging from the notion of general will to the principle of freedom are still widely discussed. The aim of this paper is to discuss Rousseau's influence upon the thought of Murray Bookchin, a theoretician who is mostly credited with formulating the basic tenets of social ecology and libertarian socialism In so doing, the commonalities linking these two figures together are emphasized as well. Through an interpretative-textual method, the major argument of the paper is that Murray Bookchin's political theory echoes -in essence- the arguments put forward by Rousseau in many ways.
