- Abstract
The article analyzes the importance of didactic almanacs in European literature of the 18th century. These almanacs emerged in the Italian states from 1750 and were characterized by including historical, geographical, and astronomical themes. Some prominent authors in this movement are Ovidio Montalbani and Carlo Cesare Scaletta. These publications were aimed at an audience with a higher level of education than the average. In Spain, almanacs sought to offer condensed and encyclopedic knowledge to the majority of people. In Portugal, almanacs focused on providing instructions on agriculture but were influenced by "rustic astrology" instead of Enlightenment agricultural theories. These almanacs are an important source of information on agriculture and other topics in 18th-century Southern Europe.
