- Abstract
This paper focuses on the origin of British hispanism. The idea is to explain how some British scholars who were interested in Spanish culture became professional hispanists. My research points out the links between the introduction of Spanish teaching at British universities and the emergence of scholars specializing in Hispanic studies in Great Britain at the end of the Nineteenth Century. To sum up, this work is a brief history of the first British hispanists.
