- Abstract
The article reports on the increased cases of pertussis in the state of Washington due to which the Washington State Secretary of Health declared a pertussis epidemic on April 3, 2012. It reviews all the cases of pertussis from January 1, 2012 to June 16, 2012 to assess clinical, epidemiologic and laboratory factors associated with this increase. The pertussis epidemic in Washington reflects the evolving epidemiology of pertussis in the U.S. It is recommended to provide vaccination pregnant women which should not influence the too young infants.
