- Authors
Smith, Earl Bradford
- Abstract
Leadership is generally associated with an individual being in a position of authority and holding a certain measure of power and influence within an organization. However, in some organizations, race, gender and social class may restrict the process of leadership. Access to power as well as the freedom to exercise one's own power and authority often lies in social and cultural systems. The purpose of this study is to stimulate new discussions on leadership theory and socio-cultural perspectives. The goal is to suggest alternative theories and encourage theory building research that are useful for informing the challenges to leadership in respect to the race, gender, and social class of the leader and people within the diverse community.
