- Abstract
The article discusses women inventors from 19th century Utah who were granted patents in their own name. Topics covered include increased interest in women's innovations in the 1880s and 1890s, ways in which the women's inventions demonstrated the state's cultural and economic preoccupations, and how the women took advantage of various aspects of Utah Territory. Also mentioned are Carrie Aurelia Munro's vapor bath, Rebecca M. Henshaw's clothes hook, and Matilda M. Busby's brake for vehicles.
