- Abstract
The article explores the contributions of the SS Beaver, the pioneering steam boat owned by Hudson's Bay Co. which plied the rivers and oceans of British Columbia. Topics covered include command of the ship under Captain George Odin, changes to the SS Beaver when Canada Pacific Navigation was acquired by Canadian Pacific Railway, how the SS Beaver mimics the societal inequalities of its era and the retirement of the SS Beaver after 28 years of service.
