Coates, David
- Abstract
In this article, the author discusses the relationship between the play and his own research for private and amateur theatricals by using the instance of the play 'Play in Performance Practices' held at the 2013 Theatre and Performance Research Association (TaPRA) Postgraduate Symposium. He comments on the private and amateur theatricals in 19th century are most popular in dilettante circles. He argues that theatricals provide few tolerable outlets for play for the upper classes in adult life.
