- Abstract
Given the prejudice directed toward religious skeptics, it is imperative that we learn as much as we can about this minority group. We administered the Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS), a brief measure of religious skepticism, the Self Attributed Need for Uniqueness scale (SANU), and the Identification With All Humanity Scale (IWAH) to a sample of 105 male and 78 female religious believers and skeptics recruited throughout the US from Mechanical Turk. We predicted that skeptics would display increased identification with all humanity, a higher need for uniqueness, and less of a tendency to be "worshipful" of a favorite celebrity when compared with religious believers. Findings related to these hypotheses were mixed. The results are discussed in light of current research on religious skeptics.
