- Title
Risk Assessment for Biodiversity.
- Abstract
The article offers information on ALARM, short for Assessing Large-scale environmental Risks for biodiversity with tested Methods. ALARM's research is focused on forecast and evaluation of changes in biodiversity and in structure, dynamics, and functions of ecosystems. The Hemholtz Centre for Environment Research coordinates ALARM in Halle an der Saale, Germany. ALARM is composed of more than 200 scientists from 35 countries. In 2004, ALARM started investigating four areas which are considered to contribute to the decline in biodiversity. The four areas include global climate change, the invasion of foreign animal and plant species, loss of pollinators, and harmful substances in the environment. ALARM is funded by the European Union and individual research partners.
