- Abstract
This is part of a series of "Notes on Qing Political History" that discusses how Qing scholarship has been enriched by new social and cultural research methods, academic exchanges abroad, and cross-disciplinary research. This article is an overview of scholarship on the Eight Banners system, which came mainly from of scholars in Japan and the United States. The first section discusses topics on the Eight Banners since the 1930s, and examines progress made in the last thirty years, including mention of scholars now working in "New Qing History." The second section discusses responses to the new developments during the last decade in China.
