- Abstract
The article presents a transcription of several letters written by U.S. Army Major General William Spencer "Will" McCaskey during the period of time he served at the Davids' Island Recruiting Depot in New York Harbor. The letters, written between May 13 and June 1, 1883, cover topics including the opening ceremonies for the Brooklyn Bridge, Army recruitment practices, and military family life. A brief biographical sketch of McCaskey's life is also included.
