The article critiques the poem "A Curse for a Nation," by English poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Topics discussed include the 19th century political events in England and the U.S. which may have been acknowledged by Browning in this poem, the way Browning addressed topics such as social justice, political power, and slavery, and the Biblical allusions presented by Browning through the conversation with an angel featured in the poem.
