- Abstract
This article discusses biodiversity, especially that of Jamaica, and its importance in maintaining the balance of nature and providing essential products and benefits to humans. Biodiversity has become a much more popular topic since the global warming controversy has arisen. Global warming will cause further problems for biological communities already suffering from habitat destruction, overexploitation of certain species, and the introduction of alien species. Jamaica's endemic animal population is discussed and a chart showing some common invasive species in Jamaica is presented.
