- Authors
Burkhart, Matt
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the novel "Jasmine," by Bharati Mukherjee. It compares the novel to the western novel "Shane," by Jack Schaefer. The allusions to other books in "Jasmine," such as the novels "Jane Eyre" and "Great Expectations," are explored, and the representation of globalization is discussed. The intertextual approach in Mukherjee's work is analyzed and its place as a novel of the New West is described.
