- Abstract
The article reports that gene therapists are expecting for the outcome of investigations into the death of a participant in a pioneering gene therapy trial in Germany. One of the three subjects enrolled in the trial, which aims to treat chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), died after his colon perforated and consequent septic shock caused organ failure. CGD is caused by a defective gp91phox, which prevents normal maturation of leukocytes.
