The article discusses the literary status of early English playbooks and the Stab-Stitching method that was used to bind these books together. Topics include the stab-stitching format of stationer Nathaniel Butter's publication of the play "The London Prodigal", reasons why very few copies of early stab- stitched playbook survive in original condition, and bibliographical discussions on these early English playbooks.
