- Abstract
The article discusses the highlights of the fifth workshop on orphaned and abandoned mines held by the Canadian National Orphaned/Abandoned Mines Initiative (NOAMI) in November 2008. The iterative steps in a risk assessment (RA) process and the factors that affect risk perception are the central theme of the keynote address. Cited are key issues and recommendations that emerged during the workshop focusing on such issues as trust and transparency, planning and scoping, and communication.
