- Title
Flesh versus Fantasy: The Image of the Living Doll in Two Plays by Ernesto Caballero.
- Authors
Hitchcock, Albert David
- Abstract
Based on the comic plays Te quiero, muñeca and Un busto al cuerpo, this study analyzes playwright Ernesto Caballero's destabilization of previously rigid systems upholding male primacy in heterosexual relationships. These works focus on the tension between the choice to alter form and the poten-tial concession of agency to a male arbiter in making this decision. The plays attest to present day Spain's alignment with the rest of Western Eu-rope in asserting the contingency of true social solidarity on recognition of and respect for difference over conformity.
